Faucet and fixture repair and installation

Faucets, sinks, toilets and other bathroom fixtures. Repaired when a part is the problem. Replaced when the fixture itself is.

Repair first, when repair makes sense

A dripping faucet is usually a worn cartridge, washer or seal, not a failed faucet. A running toilet is usually a flapper or fill valve. Those are repairs, and they cost a lot less than a new fixture.

Sometimes replacement is the honest answer: the parts aren’t made anymore, the body is cracked or corroded, or the fixture has been repaired so many times it no longer seals. When that’s the case, you’ll be told why.

If you’ve already picked out a new faucet, sink or toilet, it can be installed and connected, with the shut-off valves checked while the water is off.

Before you buy a new one

Repair or replace?

Most fixture problems are a worn part, not a failed fixture. Here’s how it usually breaks down.

The problem Usually a repair Time to replace
Dripping faucet A worn cartridge, washer or seal The body is cracked or corroded, or parts are no longer made
Running toilet A flapper or fill valve The tank or bowl is cracked
Leak under the sink A loose connection or worn supply line The trap or drain body has corroded through
Low pressure at one fixture A clogged aerator or worn cartridge Heavy internal corrosion in an old faucet
Dripping tub spout Worn cartridges or washers in the valve The valve body is worn out and parts can’t be found

Every fixture is checked before anything is recommended, and you hear the options before the work starts.

Questions homeowners ask

Should I repair or replace a leaking faucet?

If the faucet is in good shape and parts are available, repair is usually the better value. If it’s corroded, cracked, or parts are no longer made, replacement makes more sense.

Can you install a fixture I bought myself?

Yes. Mention the make and model on the call so the right connections are on hand.

Is a running toilet worth fixing right away?

Yes. A toilet that runs constantly can waste a large amount of water, and the fix is usually a simple part.

Why is the pressure low at only one faucet?

When only one fixture is affected, the cause is usually at that fixture, such as a clogged aerator, a worn cartridge, or a partly closed shut-off valve, rather than the house supply.
